What is modular construction?

Modular construction is a term used to describe rapid site assembly approach to construction. The process often uses geospatial mapping of the construction site and computer assisted design to plan and fabricate components off-site. Components are then transported and assembled at the construction site minimizing environmental impact and saving time, while improving quality of each modular components.

What are welding codes?

"Welding Codes" are standards that apply to design and fabrication using different materials. In design, the code can be used to refer to a documented standard. In practice it is the person performing the welding that shows he or she is certified, meaning they have taken an exam to demonstrate skill using a certain method.

Which codes apply and when?

Below we list a few of the most salient welding codes:

  • American Welding Society (AWS) has more than 350 welding codes, procedures, practices and standards. It is referenced more than any other code when it comes to steel welding. Their codes also address Aluminum welding (gas arc welding, gas tungsten welding, plasma arc welding) and welding for aerospace, construction and  bridge highway welding codes.
  • The American society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)  code that covers all aspects of design and manufacture of boilers and pressure vessels. 
  • The American Petroleum Institute (API) develops codes and standards for the oil and natural gas industry.
